REPORTING ABSENCE AND DISMISSAL INFORMATION
In order to ensure that all children are accounted for, families should call the Safe Arrival System (781-455-0448 ext. 1) if their child is going to be absent or tardy. This number can be accessed any time, day or night. Families may also email attendance, tardy, or dismissal information to [email protected].

When emailing or leaving a voice message, please include the child’s name (first and last), grade, teacher, and all dates of absence/tardiness. The child’s name will be checked against an absence list provided by the classroom teacher.

In addition to notifying the office, families are expected to record their student absence in School Dismissal Manager so that our end of day dismissal lists are accurate.

An office assistant will call the preferred daytime number of any child not accounted for.

VACATIONS
The Needham Public Schools discourages families from taking unauthorized school vacations. School policy dictates that teachers will not provide children with work before they leave for a vacation while school is in session. There is good reason for this. To do so trivializes teaching and what goes on in each classroom. Concepts are presented to students and homework is based on what is taught in class. Teachers cannot predict in advance where students will be in the learning process. When your child returns to school, the work missed will be given to your child. Together, you and your child can complete it. If you must travel, your children should continue to read daily and write in a travel journal
