In Kindergarten we learn about listening, comprehending what we hear and expressing our ideas verbally as well as through play, drawing and writing. We learn phonemic awareness; rhyming; letters and their sounds; and how to use "Kindergarten Spelling" (phonetic/invented spelling).
In Math we play and learn about patterns, numbers, the calendar, classification, geometry, measurement, problem solving, and algebraic thinking.
We study water, seeds, animals, weather, seasons, color, measurement, and changes in Science.
In Kindergarten we learn about ourselves and our relationships to others as individuals and as members of groups: in the classroom, in our family, and in the community. We learn to recognize and respect similarities and differences. We learn through play.
Our classrooms are special because we learn to
* respect ourselves and each other
* make good choices
* learn and grow
We might take a field trip to the Needham Public Schools' Science Center DISCOVERY ROOM at the Newman School.
Special projects we look forward to include "must-do"; art projects; play dough; sand table; blocks; dramatic play; puzzles; and Brain Gym.
The most important thing you should know about us is:
In Kindergarten, if you make a mistake, you are not WRONG, you are LEARNING!
